Toilet FAQ
What is gpf?
gpf stands for "gallons per flush".
What is the difference between a one-piece and two piece toilet?
A two-piece toilet consists of the tank and bowl; where a one-piece is molded together.
What is the difference between a round front and elongated toilet?
Elongated and round refer to the front part of the toilet. The elongated is approximately 2 inches longer than the round front.
Why do I need a 1.6 gallon toilet? Why do some work better than others?
The federal government has mandated that all toilets sold in the U. S. in 1994 for residential use will be 1.6 gallon flush.
Each manufacturer engineers their toilets differently, which is why some work better than others.
TOTO had introduced the worlds first 1.6 gpf toilet on the market. Unlike all the other manufacturers TOTO had reengineered
their toilets so that their toilets flushed effectively. One thing to look for is larger flappers (the hole in the front where the waste
goes down).
I don't trust water saving 1.6gpf toilets, why should i buy a TOTO 1.28gpf toilet?
Since 2007 the EPA started the WaterSense Program. In order for toilet manufacturers to wear this seal their toilets must
pass strict toilet testing which includes flushing a minimum of 350 grams of cased miso paste in a single flush which manufacturers
must prove that the toilets can by submitting to third-party verification. The testers, such as Underwriters Laboratories and the
International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, conduct MaP (Maximum Performance) testing, so the toilets
are tested to the point of failure. TOTO is the only toilet manufacturer that tests their toilets using uncased miso paste, which
changes the consistancy of the water to a real life situation.(see videos)
